To take a moment and give a brief update about my boys. Summer is winding down for us. Lavi has started school again - the kids have returned and he will soon be in full swing. Next week, both Ari and Noam will start off the new school year. We are excited for them both - as Ari joins a larger class of 16 children, and Noam starts off on his first voyage to school.
So I wanted to take a pause and just think about all the ways my children have grown and blossomed since my last few postings. Let's start with Ari. There is no longer any 'babyness' left in Ari. He is a full fledged little boy - who likes little boy things and loves to play all the time. He still is a huge fan of cars and trucks - and continues to learn more about them all the time. He is almost fully potty trained at this point. After spending the summer half nude most of the time - he now wears big boy underpants - and we are hopeful that we can send him to school in a week in underwear and no longer pull-ups. Accidents are bound to happen - but he is ready. The success came after we instituted a potty present chart. Every 3 days Ari gets a present for success - if he has received 3 stickers for each of the previous days. This chart miraculously worked - and the Hot Wheels presents were probably the clinchers. He is proud of himself though and that makes the difference. Ari has a wonderful summer - he has grown a lot but no longer loves to eat - so that has been a little harder. He eats when hungry - I guess that is how we should all be. He now likes to dunk his head underwater in the bathtub. He still loves his air guitar - and he is getting really good at it. He writes letters and draws wonderful pictures, thoughtfully. He has a wild imagination and loves to get both Lavi and myself in on the action. And Ari is a HUGE fan of the back scratch. That has become a nightly ritual - and he asks me to scratch his back in the morning, mid-day and at night. Don't we all love a back scratch though? I guess he knows a good thing.
Noam has also grown in leaps and bounds this summer. He walks around like a champion these days and carefully goes up and down the stairs. He no longer uses a bottle and drinks like a big boy from sippy cups. Noam eats anything and has a healthy appetite. He loves sweets and gets a little angry if he can't have 'more'. Noam talks all the time - but unfortunately we don't understand too much. I hope it starts to get clearer as he is probably bit frustrated. But he has a bunch of words, and a few strings of words that he says: 'I want it', 'Over There', 'Right There', 'cookie', 'Banana', 'more'. He still does not say Ari's name or his own. Noam loves to play soccer and he kicks the ball into the goal successfully. He even throws up his arms and says 'Goal' - which I must say is just adorable to watch. Noam loves to play and explore. He plays nicely with Ari and loves to do the things that Ari involves himself in (and vice versa). Noam has wavy hair and huge blue/green/grey eyes and perfect teeth. He is on the 70th percentile for height but is not a chubby baby. He starts school next week and I am sure he will enjoy it. He perks up when stories are read or songs are sung - so I think he will be very happy.
I am sure that I am forgetting at least half of the updates - but at least this blog helps me remember the other half. We looks forward to the start of a new chapter.
